diy project: silver-leafed lampshade

diy project: silver-leafed lampshade:

When we moved into our current rental, it had a hideous ceiling fan and light hanging in just about the oddest place you could put it. Needless to say, it was the first thing to go. This left us with the dilemma of not having a light source in our dining and living room. I found an oversized shade at IKEA and hung it on a cord and socket (also from IKEA). This solution brought the light that we needed, but the shade was missing something. Its white interior was stark and boring. I thought about painting it, but decided to follow the metallic trend (which I think I am in love with) and add a little glamour with some silver leaf. The end result is an affordable and quick eye-catching pendant shade that sure beats the look of an outdated ceiling fan. — Brenna

Michael Croxton: MODBOT

Michael Croxton: MODBOT:
I’ve mentioned this year’s SVA MFA program a couple of times recently, as the work the graduates are doing is really impressive across the board. In particular though, I’m especially excited about Michael Croxton’s project, Modbot, which is a series of organizational tools for Google Chrome. As someone who is always trying to get more organized and efficient, it’s a product that I cannot wait to try myself—plus it doesn’t hurt that the branding is great. Check out the video below to learn more about how Modbot works, and be sure to sign up on the site to stay in the loop.

Illustrated Bites Exhibition

Illustrated Bites Exhibition:
Heather Hardison recently opened a show at San Francisco’s Curiosity Shoppe featuring food-related bits of hand-lettering and illustration. The show’s pieces were inspired by the work created for her blog of the same name.

12 Colorful Gadgets

12 Colorful Gadgets:
As  kid, I loved color.  Couldn’t get enough of it.  Now as I age (gracefully), I have found myself turning more towards the blacks and grays of the rainbow–except when it comes to my tech.  There is just something about a really sleek, colorful gadget that makes me swoon.  No need to settle for the blacks and grays of technology past because now you can match your gadgets to your personal design style.
I’ve rounded up some colorful gadgets for this week’s post at My Life Scoop. If you’re looking to add a vibrant touch to your personal tech, be sure to check out this list and share your favorites. Click here for the full post. Enjoy! — Stephanie

Site for Sore Eyes: The Kitchy Kitchen

Site for Sore Eyes: The Kitchy Kitchen:
When you come across a food photograph that is so scrumptious looking that you quite literally have to hold yourself back from licking your computer screen, you know that it's worth finding out more about the photo / recipe / etc. Such is the case with The tantalizing work of Claire Thomas, the mastermind behind The Kitchy Kitchen. I first came across her Homemade Ice Cream Sandwiches via Syndi on Pinterest, and have been torturing myself (in a good way of course) by stalking her site ever since.
Really, I double-dog dare you to visit her blog and not immediately scrawl down a shopping list so that you can recreate one of her tasty recipes. Even if you're not adept in the kitchen, the eye-candy on her site is worth a visit. Skedaddle on over and see more of The Kitchy Kitchen for yourself.

kelzuki state prints from design sponge!

kelzuki state prints:

My love of state-themed design knows no bounds. So naturally these beautiful state prints from Kelsey Oseid at Kelzuki just shot straight to the top of my “favorites” list. Each state outline is filled with the colors and pattern of that state’s official bird. I’ve never been a fan of my home state’s bird (the cardinal), but I love the way Kelsey combined that bright red with a khaki colored paper- it feels modern and does Virginia proud. Click here to check out and order all of her state prints online ($18 each). Thanks to Margie for the tip! xo, grace

These fabulous shots of new Blairgowrie store White Nest found their way into my inbox recently thanks to stylist Julia Green and photographer Armelle Habib (thankyou ladies!)… how truly beautiful is it!??  I keep discovering so many great creative people and retailers along the Mornington Peninsula… this is just one more reason to schedule a little daytrip down the coast one day very soon!
White Nest stocks homewares, beach and garden accessories, soft furnishings,  candles and body products, clothing and kidswear.  Owner Lee Harris curates this perfectly styled store with an impressive range of local and international labels, as well as one off pieces, such as artwork by Emma Cleine of Lumiere Art + Co who we featured recently.  Other local brands you might recognise include Goldnbrown (remember Andy Brown’s stunning Blairgowrie home?!), Tractor Home, Angus and Celeste, Curio & Curio and many more!
I really, seriously, need to work on a Peninsula shopping guide, don’t I?
